Nigeria at 66: Happy Independence Day

The Office of the Leader joins the people of Ojodu LCDA in marking Nigeria's 66th independence anniversary.

Today, the first of October 2026, Nigeria marks sixty-six years of independence.

On this day in 1960 the country took its place among the nations of the world, and the work of building a nation began.

It is work that has never been finished, and it was never meant to belong only to those in power: it belongs to every Nigerian who keeps faith with the country.

Sixty-six years on, that work continues here at home.

It continues in the markets and workshops of Ojodu, in its classrooms and its places of worship, and in every household where people rise early, trade honestly and look after their neighbours.

Independence is more than a date to remember.

It is a responsibility we all carry, whatever our station: to keep the peace in our communities, to support those who are struggling, and to hold those who serve to account.

The Office of the Leader salutes the people of Ojodu LCDA and Nigerians everywhere on this anniversary.

We wish every resident a peaceful and happy Independence Day.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Long live Ojodu LCDA.
