Hon.
Opeyemi Apatira, Chairman of the Lagos State Councillors Forum, represented the local government legislators of Lagos State at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.
The President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declared the council inaugurated before the party's national leadership, governors, federal legislators and political leaders drawn from every part of the country.
The council is chaired by the President, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as First and Second Vice Chairmen, and Senator Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General.
Addressing members, the President said the work would only count when it reaches the polling unit.
He said, "No one gets credit for an incomplete assignment.
So, until you deliver the next election, until you deliver your wards, until you deliver the votes, before we can say thank you." What set the ceremony apart was the company in the hall.
Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Accord and other parties sat alongside the APC leadership, among them the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who will coordinate Rivers State and the FCT, the Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, and the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke.
Hon.
Apatira said it was a privilege to carry the voice of Lagos State's local government legislators to the ceremony.
He said, "Never before has the whole country, regardless of party line, come into such an alignment behind the mandate of one person in the history of Nigeria.
The Asiwaju of the Universe called, and Nigeria answered." The party's campaign flag-off is scheduled for Saturday, 24 October 2026 in Kaduna State.
