A message from the Leader and the House
To a gentleman from Ward B — and a true democrat.
Today we celebrate Kehinde Akerele — a gentleman from Ward B, and a true democrat. That is the whole of how the office describes him, and it is enough: between them, those two things say what a community actually knows a person by, how he carries himself and what he will not let go of.
The first word is the rarer one. A gentleman is not a position anyone can be given; it shows up in the ordinary traffic of a day, in how a person speaks to those who can do nothing for him. In Ward B the word needs no explaining, and that is where it was earned.
The second half of the description is where he is from. Ward B is not a footnote to him or a line on a form — it is home, the place that shaped him and the place he belongs to. Whatever he has become, he became it here among us.
And a true democrat, which is the office’s plainest compliment: someone who holds that the people are the point and not the audience, and who has carried that conviction through the seasons when carrying it was not convenient. He has never traded it away.
As he marks another year, Kehinde Akerele, our prayer is for sound health, long life and peace in his household. May God bless the years he has given our community, and may Ward B and the whole of Ojodu LCDA keep the benefit of them.

A gentleman cannot be appointed and is not a rank anyone confers. It is a habit of treating people well when there is nothing to be gained by it — and it is the first thing the office reaches for when it describes him.

Ward B is where he is from, and it is home — the place that made him and the place he belongs to. It is not a line on a form, and it is not a detail added for the occasion.
A true democrat
A democrat in conviction and not only in name: someone who believes the people are the point rather than the audience. Our community has had reason to value that, and he has never traded it away.
